Ghost In The Machine: Portraits Made Out of Regular Cassette Tapes & 8mm Films

Erika Iris Simmons is a creative young American artist who is certainly headed for greatness. Erika creates astonishing portraits using donated second hand items as medium.

Some of her most known and widely exhibited works are incredible portraits of the series titled "Ghost In The Machine" of pop culture icons created from regular cassette tapes of their recordings and 8mm films of their works. Every one of her creations makes me stop for a moment in admiration.

Please check out Erika's website here as well as her flicker page.

"In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a phrase (ironically) coined by philosopher Gilbert Ryle, a description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging." --- Erika Iris Simmons
