The World's 2nd largest aquarium tank

Here is a beautiful short clip of the 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world: Kuroshio Sea.  The tank is located at Okinawa, Japan. The short clip was shot by Jon Rawlinson who is a documentary filmmaker from Vancouver, Canada

What makes this piece so beautiful is not only the astounding visual beauty of it but also the wonderful song titled "Please don't go" by the Indie music group Barcelona; which makes this short clip a treat to both the eyes and the ears: a totally wonderful and relaxing experience.

Enjoy !

The Seed Cathedral: The UK Pavilion at Shanghai 2010 World Expo

I have not followed the Shanghai World Expo. I did, however, watch the opening and closing ceremonies.
While reading about it and the various pavilions, I came across a very unusual and striking pavilion: the UK Pavilion.
The UK Pavilion featured a large scale outdoor art piece that looks very eye catching, beautiful and surreal in the same time: The Seed Cathedral. It has been designed by Heatherwick Studio. It is basically a 20m high building that celebrates the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew and their Millennium Seedbank. The Seed Cathedral is constructed out of "60,000 transparent 7.5-metre long optical strands, each of which has embedded within its tip a seed. The interior is silent and illuminated only by the daylight that has filtered past each seed through each optical hair."  No need to illuminate the interior of the structure as the optical strands glow at night from being exposed to the Sun during the day light !
The Seed Cathedral is quite a beautiful piece to gaze out for a while. At first glance, one might think that the building is out of focus as it appears formless and without boundaries or edges. A second glance will really show the beauty of the structure and the effort that went into its designs and its 60,000 strands.

Hats off to the team from Heatherwick Studio.

The video is short yet it combines the beautiful color of the digital image with fantastic music to show our Solar System in a way that is more beautiful than anything else i have seen.

hats off to the artist and to those who created this splendid clip.

Here is the artwork itself on deviantart and on wikimedia. please give it sometime to load as it is 18 MB in size, but certainly worth a look.

Breaking News: Some Bullshit Happening Somewhere

here is a very funny satire on how the news are being conveyed now with all the head spinning graphics and sound effects ..etc.

Those of you who have ever watched some cheap and pretentious news channel like Fox would totally understand this.
The clip is done by the guys at the Onion. I highly recommend all their work.

How To Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You ?

Here is something i came across which gave me a good laugh. As a person who used to own a cat (for more info, go here) , I can say that cat behavior is certainly a great source of endless joy and fun. Cat do a lot of crazy fun things around the house and show not only their hunter nature but also how joyful and playful they are.

here is one more funny interpretation of their funny cute mischiefs around the house ^_^

Ghost In The Machine: Portraits Made Out of Regular Cassette Tapes & 8mm Films

Erika Iris Simmons is a creative young American artist who is certainly headed for greatness. Erika creates astonishing portraits using donated second hand items as medium.

Some of her most known and widely exhibited works are incredible portraits of the series titled "Ghost In The Machine" of pop culture icons created from regular cassette tapes of their recordings and 8mm films of their works. Every one of her creations makes me stop for a moment in admiration.

Please check out Erika's website here as well as her flicker page.

click on each image for a full size to see all the details.

"In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a phrase (ironically) coined by philosopher Gilbert Ryle, a description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging." --- Erika Iris Simmons

Beautiful Sensual Paintings by Rob Hefferan

I came across the website of a very gifted artist by the name of Rob Hefferan who creates some of the best figurative oil paintings I have seen.

Rob creates astonishing paintings by applying a beautiful balance of colors and lighting to capture the beauty and elegance of the human form as well as the dynamic feel of each character. All the figures in his paintings are so realistically drawn. It makes me sometimes think that they might suddenly move.

Please check Rob's website and see more of his great work here.
