The Singing Ringing Tree

Here is a very interesting and brilliant sculpture which I stumbled upon on the Building Design architecture website.

The Singing Ringing Tree is a tree-shaped wind musical sculpture that was designed and constructed by Tonkin Liu Ltd and is located at Crown Point site in an area overlooking the town of Burnley in Lancashire county in the north west of England. It was part of the Panopticons art and regeneration project: a series of four 21st century landmarks, or panopticons (structures providing a comprehensive view), across East Lancashire.

The Singing Ringing Tree was constructed from galvanized steel pipes and was shaped and designed to produce sound that changes as the wind interacts with the pipes.

The produced sound has a very eerie, unearthly, and horror-movie-like quality that is both gripping and mesmerizing.
