Giant Puppets Walk the Streets of Berlin

We all know what a marionette is. It is that small little cute puppet that is controlled from above by a puppeteer using wires. Marionette shows are always great fun.

Now, imagine if the puppet is so gigantic that it dwarfs the puppeteers and the viewers!!! This has to be an interesting experience.

The Royal De Lux, a French mechanical marionette theater company, in celebrating Germany’s 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, has put on one of the biggest shows on earth where an entire city is its center stage: The Berlin Reunion. The show featured two giant marionettes: a deep see diver named the Big Giant and his niece, the Little Giantess. According to the storyline, they were separated by a wall, land and sea monsters for many years. After returning from a long expedition to destroy the wall, the Big Giant and the Little Giantess roam the streets of Berlin, one from the east and the other from the west, looking for each other after the long separation.

The show displays outstanding work of creativity and beauty.

I leave you with a video of the show and some photos, courtesy of the Big Picture. (click on any photo for full size)
